Savoie Faire — An Exploration of Savoie with Pierrick Gorrichon

On Sunday, 2 August, sommelier Pierrick Gorrichon, a friend of Cumulus Inc. and a familiar face to many, is joining us for lunch. Hailing from France and having worked as a sommelier for over ten years, Pierrick has an exceptional passion for wine. This August, he once again returns to our dining room to celebrate the French region of Savoie, and all the captivating cuisine and wine it offers.

Tucked into the French Alps along the borders of Switzerland and Italy, Savoie is a mountain region where dramatic landscapes shape both the cuisine and the wines. Steep alpine vineyards produce fresh, mineral-driven whites from varieties such as Jacquère and Altesse, alongside vibrant reds from local grapes including Mondeuse and Persan. The region's cool climate and limestone-rich soils give the wines remarkable energy, making them natural companions to Savoyard cuisine, known for its mountain cheeses, cured meats and freshwater fish.

On the day, expect a celebration of the region's most influential producers, including Prieuré Saint-Christophe, whose dedication to Mondeuse has earned the estate legendary status, and Jean-Yves Péron, a pioneer of expressive, high-altitude wines from around Albertville. To conclude the afternoon, we'll turn to another of the region's great treasures: Chartreuse. Produced by Carthusian monks in the foothills of the French Alps for centuries, these complex herbal liqueurs will be presented as a composed flight, offering a fitting finale to what is sure to be an exciting lunch.
